The different modes

Furhat has three different modes, controlling what features are run on the Furhat machine.

  • No mode: In this mode, the Furhat facial animation is not running. This is useful maintenance purposes (for example, if you want to connect a monitor to configure the computer).

  • Passive mode: In this mode, Furhat only runs the facial animation and synthesis. By connecting to the Furhat computer from your own computer, you can control Furhat's gaze, speech and gestures.

  • Live mode: In this mode, Furhat also runs speech recognition, Kinect and all modules necessary to be fully autonomous. You can upload you own skills to Furhat. A skill contains instructions on which grammars to load and a flow for the dialog.
